Salvini has Bergoglio's Church against him and enters the heart of the Vatican's troubles

From immigrants to the security decree, The positions of the Bergoglio pontificate are increasingly distant from those of the Northern League leader and Minister of the Interior.

“The Church has taken the field against us. I expected it". There were many clues he had collected, Matteo Salvini, who is not loved by Pope Francis. He already had confirmation of this when he was rejected more than one meeting request. As vice prime minister he would like to meet the pontiff, without hiding the distances, the differences. First of all immigration. But it is precisely these that keep the Northern League leader away from the Tiber and Via della Conciliazione. The latest in time, the security decree that Italian bishops and some important Catholic communities define as not only inhumane (giving vent to “conscientious objector” mayors), but contrary to the Constitution.

The real "schism" is the model of the Church that Matteo Salvini and his ideologist follow in this field and in the European one, Lorenzo Fontana. In this sense the excessive closeness of the League to the American cardinal, conservative and traditionalist, Raymond Burke: in December the high prelate went to bless the Christmas tree in the office of the Minister of Agriculture Gianmarco Centinaio. Then Salvini's insistence on the "Holy Pope John Paul II,”, the Polish Wojtyla. It is no coincidence that on Wednesday the Northern League member will be in Warsaw in Poland today led by a radical right-wing government discussed in Brussels: Salvini will close an important alliance for the European elections with the nationalist Jaroslaw Kaczynski.

The contrasts

The reasons for the Vatican's reaction are clear in the League. Political motivations, according to the Northern League, which have a logic within the balance of power between European and American bishops and cardinals. Salvini is certainly not with the Franciscan Pope. He says he's staying with the street priest instead, with the neighborhood priest who listens to the uneasiness of his parishioners and shares the grip on migrants and blesses the security decree.

Salvini is with that identity trend in Europe, especially from the east, wants to affirm the priority of the Catholic family, stop moral and gender laxity. A religious thread, cultural and political which also seems to be good for the permanent electoral campaign.

The conflict is not just limited to Italy, to the events of NGO ships transporting migrants, to reception centers and the strictures of the security decree. The League becomes the spokesperson for a political and cultural battle, European and international that reaches the heart of the Vatican.

  • *THE MADNESS OF OUR TIME…*
“We live in a time when the vast majority of people want priests to marry, but that married couples divorce as if nothing had happened.
They want heterosexuals to have relationships without compromise and *without marriage*, but that *gay couples get married in church.*
They want women to have male bodies and dress like men and take on male roles. May men become “fragile”, delicate, as if they were women.
*A child with only five or six years of life would already have the right to decide whether he wants to be a man or a woman for life,* but a *minor* by law, *cannot answer for his crimes.*
There is no space for patients in hospitals, but there is encouragement and sponsorship for those who want to change sex.
There is *free counseling for those who wish to leave heterosexuality and experience homosexuality*, but *there is no support for those who want to leave homosexuality and live their heterosexuality* and, if they try to do so, it's a crime.
*Being pro-family and religion is dictatorship*, but *urinating on the cross is freedom of expression.*
If this isn't the end of times, it must be at least the *dress rehearsal…”*
