THE EURISPES REPORT
The data is contained in relationship 2019 of Eurispes, according to which «3 Italians out 4 I'm pro-euthanasia: a figure with a strong increase compared to previous years, when the 55,2% (2015) and the 59,9% (2016) some Italians expressed the same opinion". Italy would therefore be ready to hand itself over hand and foot to the heralds of the "good death", It's just a shame that the reality is completely different. Another fact, contained in the report, It immediately catches the eye: il 60,6% of Italians say they are against assisted suicide. This discrepancy is already suspicious in itself, since there is no difference from an ethical point of view between the two practices: in the first the doctor actively causes the patient's death, in the second it is the patient who causes his own death with the help of the doctor. The way in which death is brought about changes, but it doesn't change the substance. Why therefore should Italians be in favor of euthanasia and not assisted suicide?
To discover the mystery you need to read Eurispes' report in detail and not stop at the summary. It thus turns out that Italians are against euthanasia (64,6%) when the motivation that drives the applicant is dictated by "serious physical limitations" such as "inability to move or blindness"; are against when the applicant is suffering from an "incurable disease" (62,1%); they are against it in case of "total loss of the ability to understand and want" (66%) and they are against it even in the event of "total loss of autonomy" (56,6%).
THE “IRREVERSIBLE COMA” SCAM
One would think, In short, that Italians are always and in any case against euthanasia, yet Eurispes maintains that the 73,4% is favorable. How is this possible? Simple: the Italians, the report specifies, they believe «on direct request» that “good death” should be resorted to «only in the case of an irreversible coma (77,5%) or extreme physical suffering (64,6%)». To explain why so many Italians express such an opinion, the report talks about the «Luana Englaro affair» (sic!).
The double blunder demonstrates Eurispes' bad faith: first of all, "irreversible coma" is now an inappropriate way to define "brain death", which occurs when there is no longer any activity in the brain. Cardiopulmonary functions are still present in the individual, but only with the aid of mechanical respiration. Although the debate and scientific literature on the topic are extensive, today the state of brain death is considered equivalent to death.
WHAT DOES ELUANA HAVE TO DO WITH IT?
Eurispes therefore asked Italians if they are in favor of euthanasia when the subject is dead. The question makes no sense and if there is one thing that certifies the relationship it is that the 77,5% of Italians are against aggressive therapy, which is prohibited by law. Euthanasia, In short, It has absolutely nothing to do with it. Besides, Eluana Englaro he was not in an irreversible coma but in a vegetative state, a completely different condition, given that those who find themselves in a vegetative state have ventilatory and circulatory functions, he is awake and does not need to be attached to any machinery.
NOT A PALLIATIVE CURE?
According to Eurispes, Italians are also in favor of euthanasia even when the person is in a state of "extreme physical suffering". The wording is vague (it's a coincidence?) and therefore it is impossible to understand what the Italians mean, having already declared themselves against the "good death" even in the presence of an incurable illness that will lead to death and loss of autonomy. Furthermore, the question about physical suffering is not tempered by another more than necessary question: that is, whether Italians agree to euthanasia even when palliative care is available to relieve pain. Today, in fact, all medicine works on the palliation of pain to improve the quality of life of patients.
Ultimately, the statement «the 73,4% of Italians are in favor of euthanasia" is a colossal fake news, because the pro-"good death" answers were extorted with the help of fraudulent and conceptually incorrect questions. The radicals, Obviously, they have no interest in checking the reliability of the survey and spread the news urbi et orbi, bringing a lot of water to the mill of the proposed law on legal euthanasia. But from the big newspapers, Courier e Republic in the head, champions of the truth that saves democracy, how he trombones Washington Post in his commercial aired during the Super Bowl, we would have expected a bit of fact checking.
