A Torino only one cinema is showing the film Red Land-Rosso Istria, which tells the drama of the foibe and the story of Norma Cossetto. Also to Milano only one cinema. A Genova Nobody, a Perugia Nobody, in Emilia Romagna it is only possible to see it in a multiplex Cesena, in Campania to see it you have to go to Avellino. A Cagliari there isn't. Nothing in Sicily. It's possible it's just a distribution problem? No, it's not possible.
And among other things, in the cinemas where the film is shown, full houses are guaranteed. So much so that screenings were extended in the two cinemas in Rome hosting the film. There is therefore a cultural problem, of removal, of subtle boycott, which still accompanies the taboo theme of the foibe today. “In Italy – wrote Fausto Biloslavo – there are approximately 4500 screens, but the film about the tragedy of the foibe, After 70 years, found space in the first week just in 30 goes up and in the second in another 40.”
How then can we continue a work of sharing that facilitates historical truths and pays due homage to scandalously forgotten victims?? The Union of Istrians, through his Facebook page, launches a proposal counting on diffusion via social media: “There are many concerns regarding the correct diffusion of the film Red Land-Rosso Istria in Italian cinemas. The Union of Istrians is evaluating the opportunity to ask Palazzo Chigi for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, also through the support of the Presidents of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia Massimiliano Fedriga and of the Veneto Region Luca Zaia to take charge of the issue directly, so that the film is shown in prime time on Rai, on one of the days of the week preceding the Day of Remembrance of the Exodus and the victims of the Foibe. Only this way, and with an adequate advertising campaign on all Rai channels, all Italian families - even those who for economic or other reasons could not afford to go to the cinema - would have the opportunity to see this film. Give us a hand in this regard, if you share the initiative. We are counting on you!”. It would be hoped that Rai would worthily celebrate Remembrance Day by broadcasting the film, which among other things he co-produced. However it ends, the way a beautifully crafted film like Red Land-Rosso Istria was welcomed and "silenced" demonstrates once again how a sense of annoyance and indifference remains towards the Istrian and Julian-Dalmatian exiles which prevents the national community from fully taking charge of their drama.
