The crazy idea of ​​a bishop who decided to detach the arms from the statue of Christ. They will be the new hands.
From a symbol of forgiveness and sacrifice to a furnishing accessory. The Crucifix becomes a clock and it was the bishop of Innsbruck who had the crazy idea. Who, the prelate Hermann Glettler decided to reinvent the statue of Jesus on the cross, to make a completely unusual use of it.
The body of Christ placed upside down, the detached arms that become mobile hands. “As time passes – explains Glettler -, the arms form the different constellations and the static body of the dead Christ suddenly comes to life, which represents a moment of liberation from the cross and an overcoming of death itself".
But that of the "Crucifix-clock" is certainly not the first "novelty" introduced by the bishop. He had it installed in the cathedral some time ago a neon light (rossa) which resembles the sign of an old meeting house from the Weimar Republic. On the facade of the building, until a few months ago the poetic phrase was admired: “As long as God has a beard, I will be a feminist".
