Sergio Moro, the Brazilian anti-corruption magistrate designated by the new President of the Republic Jair Messias Bolsonaro as "super-minister" of justice, he formally left the judiciary yesterday. From today he therefore assumes full responsibility as government manager in the transition team (Transition Team) created by Bolsonaro immediately after his victory in the run-off of 28 October to prepare the complete renewal of the country's political-institutional system. The leader of the Brazilian right and former army captain, in fact, it is quickly getting rid of all those who risked plunging the State into chaos and lawlessness.
Although he will take office starting January 1st 2019, Bolsonaro has thus already prepared the rotation of the key figures at the top of the federal administration who, in the last ones 14 years of government of Workers' Party (PT), they have destabilized and caused immense damage to the country. For this reason Judge Moro, author of the sentence to 12 years in prison for corruption of the former President of the PT Lula da Silva, he was immediately hired as minister of justice and will be able to make use of special powers by also incorporating the current ministry of "Public Security".
Moro was the owner of the "Lava Jato" investigation, focused on the slush funds of Petrobras, scandal considered the largest episode of corruption in the contemporary history of Brazil, which has led numerous entrepreneurs to prison, politicians and government officials, including the former head of state, considered for decades a "champion of the poor" of the European left.
In a recent interview with the Brazilian newspaper “Folha de Sao Paulo”, Moro declared that he had made the decision to put his experience as a judge at the service of politics taking inspiration from the figure of Giovanni Falcone. “I remember as Falcone, a judgeand much better than me, after having managed to eliminate the impunity of Cosa Nostra, he decided to leave Palermo to go to Rome, leaving his role to become director of Criminal Affairs at the Ministry of Justice“, he said. “If I'm lucky, I too will be able to do something important” in imitation of the Sicilian magistrate, Moro added. Upon his entry into Bolsonaro's team, the young magistrate (46 years) he has had to suffer accusations and criticism from notable sectors who have always accused him of "partiality" against the left. But the new Brazilian president doesn't really seem to have an inferiority complex, in the same hours in which Moro formalized his resignation, he disclosed a long telephone conversation with the Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán, declaring that he wanted to be a “great partner” of the leader of the Euro-Eastern sovereignist right.
