After the discovery of the ignoble gesture, the monument was cleaned
It had only been inaugurated yesterday, for the Remembrance Day, the stele in memory of Norma Cossetto. But the monument that Latina had paid tribute to the young Istrian martyr of the Headquarters it has already been desecrated, smeared with the symbol of anarchy drawn in red paint. After the discovery, this morning, of the ignoble gesture the stele was cleaned by the municipal administration.
“The profanation of the stele in memory of Norma Cossetto inaugurated only yesterday in Latina is the sign of a stupid and blind ideological fury, fueled by a climate of opposition that has no reason to exist”, declares the former mayor of Latina, Vincenzo Zaccheo comments on the vile and cowardly gesture against the memory of the young victim of the foibe with the affixing of anarcho-communist symbols.
“With that gesture – concludes Zacchaeus – the poor Norma Cossetto was killed twice. First in the Foibe massacre, then in the cowardly, cowardly gesture against his memory and against the victims of those massacres. Latina, city of hospitality that gave refuge to thousands of families uprooted from their lands by the blind fury of Tito's Italian-Yugoslav communist partisans, he cannot tolerate the stupidity of this act. I hope and hope that the municipal administration will intervene with a firm condemnation, as well as with the immediate restoration of the stele and that the authors of this massacre be identified as soon as possible”.
