Il 1 ° January the so-called “extended jurisdictional protection of transgender people” was introduced, which means that “motives of transgender identity or expression” are added to the crime of hate speech, Fria Tider reports.
At the end of last year, The Swedish government has presented a bill to Parliament with proposals to “strengthen the protection of transgender people in criminal law”.
“The Government's proposed legislative changes mean that transgender people will be fully protected under hate crime legislation. Today the regulations include, for example, the color of the skin, belief and sexual orientation”, the government reports.
The bill proposes to add “transgender identity or expression” to hate speech regulations.
Now the changes are implemented and the law is therefore further expanded. So-called “hatred” against transgender people is prohibited.
Dal 1 ° January 2019 to the chapter 16 the following applies:
"Whoever, in a statement or other shared message, threatens or expresses contempt for a community or other group of people on the basis of race, of skin color, of national or ethnic origin, of the creed, sexual orientation or transgender identity or expression , is sentenced for inciting hatred for a maximum of two years or, if the crime is minor, to a fine.
“If the crime is serious, the perpetrator of the crime is sentenced for aggravated incitement to hatred up to imprisonment for a minimum of six months and a maximum of four years".
