One of the biggest mysteries, I say this without irony, was the misleading transformation of the "medieval" term in adjective – I quote the Treccani dictionary – referring to «outdated and retrograde conceptions and principles". It seems that behind all this there is illuminist hand, but it's worth seeing clearly.
Also because, I am trying to say: the reviled Middle Ages gave us art, cathedrals, monasteries and culture still today (also economically, think about tourism) they yield fortunes: I don't know if in a few years - I doubt it - anyone will want to go for a ride, not only if paying but not even if paid, in many abortions signed by our starchitects; but we bet that there will still be interest in what the medieval era has left? Who will live, you'll see: and I'm sure he'll see.

The same terrifying one Medieval Inquisition, invoked as the shame of history, everything was anything but: even the stones know it that the peak of witch hunts occurred during the Renaissance and in any case in Protestant Germanic regions more than in Catholic ones. Furthermore, everything was, the Middle Ages, except hostile to women: the names of Matilde of Canossa, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Blanche of Castile or Hildegard of Bingen say nothing? Strange indeed, In short, that the reviled Middle Ages were such a barbaric and ignorant era. So barbaric and ignorant, among other things, to have given humanity people like Saint Francis of Assisi – one of the most significant saints of all time -, come san Tommaso d’Aquino – one, if not the greatest theologian of all time – and how Dante Alighieri, whose Divine Comedy it is such an extraordinary work that it reveals an intelligence – said intellectuals such as Federico Zeri (1921–1998) - incredible, monstrous, such as to almost exclude the possibility that the Divine Poet was a human being. The era of «coutdated and retrograded conceptions and principlesi" was also - in spite of its alleged degradation - that of Municipalities, from the municipal liberties, from the Great Charter.
The connection between the Middle Ages and hatred against women also makes you smile homosexual people: are Wikipedia, temple of culture 2.0, on the one hand it is admitted that in the High Middle Ages homosexuality was treated as sins such as adultery and premarital relations, on the other hand it is said that in the Late Middle Ages there were persecutions of which, keep case, However, sources are missing. In any case, about homophobia, we do well to remember that to incarcerate Oscar Wilde it was neither the medievals nor the Catholics, but Victorian England. And we could continue if the mystery of “medieval” as an insult wasn't already thick and unjustified enough. The only real fault of the Middle Ages, actually, it's one: to have been a Christian. Profoundly Christian. And you just can't forgive him for this.
