Ideological delinquents

But where were the beautiful souls who now rise up indignantly for “the sovereignist provocation” of remembering Jan Palach, at the time of the tanks and then in all the following years in which that sacrifice was remembered? Why didn't they remind them of that example and then of the other examples of many young people in Hungary before, then in Poland and in the rest of the world they paid their lives to rebel against communism? They want to spread the false legend that, apart from a few old communists in the apparatus, the local left had been libertarian since that day and had sided with the insurgents, which then - at their sole discretion- they were all on the libertarian left, nothing else. And therefore if today on the right, or in the concert of musical groups in Verona, some insist on remembering the deeds of Jan Palach and his emulators, it appropriates memories that are not theirs, carries out a fascist provocation, which today is updated to "sovereignist provocation".

The legend of the Beautiful Souls it is pumped up by some cases such as the manifesto group which after the events in Prague sharpened its dissent and left the PCI. Ecco, where were the sixty-eighters, the libertarians, the progressives and radicals of that time, of yesterday and today. On the side of the insurgents, they say today. A small gigantic detail is omitted: the aforementioned were not aligned with the Soviet Union not for the sake of freedom but because at the time they were all with that old liberal Mao Tse Tung (later became Dong). You know who Mao was? The dictator who killed more than anyone in all time, compared to which if Stalin and Hitler had remained together as in 1939 they would have even had fewer victims. And Mao's massacres occurred not in wartime or even when he gained power, but after years, when the Chinese dictator called for the cultural revolution. What a suave and intellectual expression for a massacre of millions of Chinese, or for the forced re-education of others, to the sound of torture, lager, humiliations and self-denunciations.
But about that Maoism, as well as Castro, Ho Chi Minh, perfino Pol Pot, our sixty-eighters became infatuated, and all those who then joined the libertarian left. It is not a complaint against unknown persons. Names can be mentioned. Beyond the entire poster group (of which only Luigi Pintor had the honesty to admit the mistake/horror years later), there was half a student movement, starting from the leaders and Mario Capanna himself, there was the communist party of Italy, Serving the people where people like Michele Santoro, many militants of Lotta Continua and Potere Opere, there were Chinese avant-gardes, the pro-Chinese movements in schools and universities and there was the left-wing intelligentsia of the time: Alberto Moravia and Maria Antonietta Macciocchi, Enrica Collotti Pischel and Renata Pisu, Edoardo Sanguineti and Dario Fo, Alberto Jacoviello and Franca Basaglia, Alberto Cavallari and Furio Colombo, Marco Bellocchio. And even among Catholics, not just the Catholic communists, there was no shortage of declarations of love for Mao from Raniero La Valle and Benigno Zaccagnini, Vittorino Colombo. To spite the communists, even a young Craxi and a mature Pietro Nenni joined the socialists, who also had lavish praise of Stalin behind him. I'll save you many others, as well as of course the French intellectuals who are always in the front row with leftist infatuations (not surprisingly also in the Battisti case), but which at the time included Maoist calibers of the type of Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, Jean-Luc Godard, Louis Althusser e Roger Garaudy, then he came to Islamism. And I'll spare you the fabulous world of cinema, of music and the arts. The aforementioned dreamed of the cultural revolution in our country too, and in some ways they did, in a bloodless but intolerant way.
You should read the writings of the time or lack thereof, resort to books like that of Paul Hollander, Political pilgrims (The Mill), or more recently, “What Remains of Mao”, edited by Mario Tesini and Lorenzo Zambernardi (ed.Lemmonier).
Now the heirs of these people, today's sixty-eight year olds, the vopos of the anti-fascist republic, the dead dogs of communism, they would like to prevent those who have always defended the revolt and then the memory of those insurgents, to remember them fifty years later. To the point that the infamous, in the eyes of these beautiful souls, they would not be those communist regimes that crushed them in blood or against which those young people sacrificed themselves. But the fascists o, changing, the sovereignists who allow themselves to celebrate his memory.
You understand that the Battisti case repeats itself endlessly, it's a script already written: the infamous person is not the one who killed four people but the one who shows off by throwing them in... As if a tweet or a onesie, although deplorable, are more serious than lives massacred and others destroyed and more serious than complicity with those murderers. Or as if a guitar in memory and honor of Jan Palach was more infamous than a tank that marched into Prague crushing the freedom of a people. Decades pass, but you remained ideological delinquents like then, or like your fathers, your older brothers.
