A film already seen

SMS is the code name of Left Magistrates Press, the transversal snake that tells us what we should think, who should we condemn and how should we be indignant. The SMS tells us every day that we are living under the worst possible regime, at the worst possible time, under the heel of a criminal in uniform named Matteo Salvini which must be processed immediately. But I feel like I've already seen this horror film. And so I went back in my memory to the beginning of the present decade. The scene was totally different, the protagonists as well.
The worst possible regime in that terrible time was the center-right and the criminal's heel, with heel lift, was that of Silvio Berlusconi. The alarm was no different, the persistence, hatred for another democratic emergency, another “unprecedented” situation. Even then we lived in “a South American dictatorship”, populist and rascal, we were outside of Europe even then, from Modernity and Democracy, and naturally outside the law.
But not only that. To those who say today that we live in a shocking time, where all problems are reduced to one, the landings of migrants, I would like to remember what the menu was in those days. There was no talk of the country's real problems, of the economic crisis that has now broken out in the United States and is destined to infect Europe, there was no talk of work, public works and healthcare, or a thousand other emergencies. No, the eyes of the media, of the investigating magistrates and the left were entirely reserved for the erotic deeds of the prime minister in office in the kingdom of the Sluts. There he is, it's him, Priapus, king of Troy. The issue that divided public opinion was not quota 100, closed ports or citizenship income but if the Knight knew that Ruby was a minor, whether or not there was sex between the two or with Noemi Letizia, whether the parties in Arcore were orgies or not, whether or not he paid for the houses of the Olgettines and how he repaid the debt to the court ladies who populated Zoccolandia. Foreign policy issues were touched upon only through the mention of Putin's Latvian, where the crime with d'Addario allegedly took place, or Mubarak's niece, how the young Moroccan was sumptuously presented to conceal lust in reasons of state. The national intrigue that absorbed public debate and private conversations was how the Knight's sexual mechanics worked, if it was a pump system, coin operated or push button operated. The dominant narrative was an inverted fairy tale, the Dwarf and the seven Snow Whites.
An entire country was instigated to forget reality and its problems to take care of private interests in official acts, very private, and to dedicate himself exclusively to erotic-judicial gossip about the prime minister, to express moral and criminal condemnation. Politics disappeared, everything was reduced to interceptions, touches and photoshop. Moralism & Bullshit.
With these precedents you wonder where we have reached? By making these comparisons you believe that today we have reached rock bottom? And that was it, the bottom? You mean dealing with migrants, drug dealers or quota 100 is more infamous than dealing with boobs, culi e bunga bunga?
As for the delinquent leader, Salvini is only the latest arrival for which judges and prison are invoked. Who knows for what curse but anyone who opposes the left in Italy is by definition criminal: Almirante was but also the partisans Pacciardi and Sogno, Craxi was but also Fanfani, the presidents Cossiga and before him Leone, Berlusconi was, naturally. Fini stopped being one as soon as he lent himself to the game of the left. But what a bad luck, this left never has decent opponents, they are always all criminals, or rather they become so as soon as they oppose the left itself.
Today the grillini offer generous reasons for satire, bewilderment and derision; but we want to say how we were reduced ten years ago, to follow the sighs in Berlusconi's bedroom on the speakerphone or to follow them on the giant screen from the keyhole, the real or presumed erotic exploits of the reigning satyr? Testimonials, dossier, bundles of documents, rivers of interceptions, hundreds of people absorbed by this meticulous work, everything to find out if the pussy had been there, whether he had taken and how much he had taken. This is what the democratic emergency was, the sense of the State (or rather the state of the senses), in short, the political theme of those days. Having a short memory, living now totally lost in the present, we tend to forget the recent past, we are unable to make comparisons and we seem to live in some unprecedented nightmare. But if you make a little effort, remember how we were combined, not a century ago, but at the beginning of this decade.
We were no better off than today, believe me. And for the SMS we were even then in the worst of all possible worlds.
