Global Compact, the government suspends the UN pact on immigration

Prime Minister Conte's announcement following input from Minister Salvini: Italy will not even participate in the Marrakech summit in December

Global Compact, not Italy – Italy suspends membership of the Global Compact on immigration, the pact signed by beyond 190 Countries the 19 September 2016 and renamed “New York Declaration“.

Furthermore, Italy will not even participate in the UN summit in Marrakech, in Morocco, that between 10 and will adopt the document on 11 December. In the front row, the leader of the Democratic Party in the Chamber, Graziano Delrio, who attacked Salvini's position: “We don't have Salvini as Prime Minister, I'll give you some news, but we have a Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, who said at the UN that we will sign the Global Compact and we have a foreign minister who, together with the Prime Minister, said publicly at the United Nations that we will sign the Global Compact".
“If Minister Salvini doesn't know these things, deepen your expertise, which is not on Foreign Affairs, and then don't come and lecture us.". Shortly after, the cold shower, with Conte giving in to Salvini's pressure.

Global Compact, the UN against the countries that are withdrawing

The United Nations special envoy for international migration, Louise Arbour, she lashed out against the countries that decided to withdraw from the Global Compact for safe migration, orderly and regular, calling the decision “buyer's remorse”, given that they had initially approved the non-binding agreement.

The Pact also provides greater support to the countries and communities hosting the largest numbers of refugees.

Resistances, but, especially with the various color changes of governments, they came from several countries that signed the document in 2016. From Donald Trump's United States to the so-called Visegrád Group countries (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary). Austria was added to these, Bulgaria, Switzerland and Poland.
