«Everything pushes the Fraternity to resume the theological discussion»: the Lefebvrians announce it in a note in which they report that the new superior, Don Davide Pagliarani, was received by the cardinal prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Luis Ladaria, opportunity to get to know each other, record an "irreducible doctrinal divergence" between Rome and the group founded after the Second Vatican Council by Monsignor Marcel Lefebvre and, precisely, «resume the theological discussion» with the Holy See «well aware that the Good Lord does not necessarily ask him to convince his interlocutors, but to bring the unconditional testimony of faith before the Church".
Thursday 22 November 2018, the ultra-conservative priestly fraternity itself reports in a note issued by Menzingen, the Swiss headquarters of the Lefebvrists, «Don Davide Pagliarani, superior general of the Society of Saint Pius, he went to Rome, at the invitation of Cardinal Luis Ladaria Ferrer, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. He was accompanied by Don Emmanuel du Chalard. Cardinal Ladaria was assisted by Monsignor Guido Pozzo, secretary of the pontifical commission Ecclesia Dei".
«The interview took place in the offices of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith from 16.30 all 18.30. Its objective was to allow Cardinal Ladaria and Don Pagliarani to meet for the first time and to take stock together of the relations between the Holy See and the Society of Saint Pius, since the election of its new superior general last July".
«During the conversation with the Roman authorities, it was remembered that the underlying problem is actually doctrinal and neither the Society nor Rome can avoid it. It is because of this irreducible doctrinal divergence that every attempt to develop a mutually acceptable draft doctrinal statement for seven years has failed..
