The sovereignist bloc is preparing to be at the second strength of the European Parliament. Polls show that after the People's Party - firmly in the lead across the continent - it is the parties to its right that are constantly strengthening. And one hundred days from the European elections, it is a fact that must be taken into account. Also to understand what the future of the European Parliament and the policies of the European Union itself will be.
I polls obviously they say a lot, but they don't say everything. Because if it is true that Europe is moving to the right, it is also appropriate to understand what lies behind this rather clear change in the politics of the Old Continent. And for sure, one of the essential data from which to start to understand this conviction of voters to support the sovereignist and conservative bloc - often united in different areas of Europe - is that of stability.
Dal programma economico a quello della sicurezza, it is difficult to notice smudges, changes in direction or internal revolutions in political agendas. And they succeed, with a good dose of so-called “populist” recipes, also to calm the discontent that is physiologically widespread in every European country.
From this point of view, Sebastian Kurz is a fairly eloquent example. And it is no coincidence that he is considered the true standard-bearer of this fusion of the two souls of the European right. Presented himself as a candidate of sovereignism, Kurz succeeded, once Chancellor, to prove itself perfectly capable of remaining within the European People's Party by proposing recipes that are certainly very compliant with European rules while contrasting those that its voters did not like. And with a very astute policy of economic rigor, investments and tough stances towards immigration, he was able to build a widespread consensus throughout Austria and throughout Europe.
But this type of recipe is the same one applied to a large extent by all the leaders of the Visegrad Group, who on the one hand fight the politically correct managing to break the progressive taboos poorly tolerated by their voters and, on the other side, they follow a clear political agenda without excesses from an economic and industrial point of view. Applying total economic realism to a clear nationalist and conservative political and cultural message, in fact they are locking down their consensus by building a narrative that is different from the populist one.
