The “Mare Nostrum” operation, which marked the beginning of the extraordinary wave of migration (some talking about invasion) from the African coasts, and in particular from Libya destabilized by Anglo-French-American aggression, had an exceptional sponsor. High-level sources from the Ministry of the Interior revealed this to Stilum Curiae, who were present and operational in the control room at the time. This is the revelation, which was witnessed by a high-ranking official of the ministry, retired today: the Pontiff (for six months, it was October 2013) he telephoned the then Prime Minister Enrico Letta to request an intervention from Italy. While it became known about a subsequent phone call, when the Letta government was in difficulty, of the interview of 2013 had not become known. Here is the story we were told, and which we report, sure of the solidity of the source.
“As is known, the exceptional migratory pressure that Europe e, in particular, Italy are experiencing originated between the months of October and November 2013 when, following the shipwreck of a boat full of illegal immigrants off the coast of Lampedusa, Italy unilaterally decided to launch Operation “Mare Nostrum” with the aim of collecting as many migrants as possible at sea, bring them to the national territory, have everyone apply for asylum and process them, rather than as illegal immigrants, as asylum seekers e, in fact, like real refugees.
The question, as well as involving the violation of domestic law, international and customary (among other things - a unique case in the world - the Italian Navy even ventured into the internal waters of a foreign state), it acted as a multiplier of departures from Africa, of which it is still a clear incentive, and resulted in de facto collusion with human traffickers, which have grown even richer since then, with estimated figures higher than drug trafficking.
Now a high-ranking state official, recalling the origin of “Mare Nostrum”, reveals:
“'The Letta government was in dire straits. A phone call came from the Pope. Why, according to her, I left as soon as I could?’”.
And Wikipedia we took these notes relative a “Mare Nostrum”:
“Operation Mare Nostrum was a vast rescue mission at sea for migrants trying to cross the Strait of Sicily from the Libyan coast to Italian and Maltese territory., implemented by 18 October 2013 al 31 October 2014 by the forces of the Italian Navy and Air Force.
Il 3 October 2013 a few miles from the port of Lampedusa there was the shipwreck of a Libyan boat used for the transport of migrants, known as the “Lampedusa tragedy”. The sinking caused: 366 confirmed deaths and approximately 20 presumed missing; the survivors were saved 155, of which 41 minors.
Following the Lampedusa shipwreck, the Italian government, led by Prime Minister Enrico Letta, decided to strengthen the national device for patrolling the Sicilian Channel by authorizing the Mare nostrum operation, a military and humanitarian mission whose purpose was to provide aid to migrants, before other tragic events in the Mediterranean could be repeated.
The deployment of forces included, among the helicopters, the HH-139 SAR of the 15th Storm, redeployed to Trapani, for search and rescue; Piaggio P-180 reconnaissance aircraft and a Breguet Atlantic aircraft of the 41st Wing of Sigonella. The Predator B drones completed the aerial deployment, which have an autonomy of 27 ore, they could acquire images from the ports from which the boats sail, allowing surface units to intercept them just outside the territorial waters from which they departed. The naval formation consisted of five offshore units; an amphibious ship, the San Marco, two patrol boats of the Constellazioni and Commander classes and two Maestrale class frigates. It was possible that they could act as escorts for the other ships, but they probably operated in more complex tactical areas together with the other navies of Mediterranean Africa, in particular the Libyan one, in military actions against traffickers not only of men, but also of weapons.
Starting November 1st 2014, Operation Mare Nostrum has been replaced by Operation “Triton by Frontex”: the program, the EU guide, aims at border control.
The migrants came from two areas: Libya (a few hours of crossing) or from Egypt (8 days of crossing), they used inflatable boats, boats and fishing boats.
The only state that contributed to the operation along with Italy was Slovenia. Despite having alone 44 km of sea Slovenia sent the ship Triglav, which however was assigned an area closer to the coast given the size of the ship".
The sources of the Ministry of the Interior point out that the Triton program also, despite initial indications, it later turned out to be a form of aid to human trafficking, more than a means of combating trafficking.
If the news - as we believe - is true, this is extraordinary pressure, and if we want of an exceptional interference on the part of the Holy See towards the State. And the consequences of which, as we know, are still continuing today. As it continues, even if now also supported by substantial interests, the pro-migration preaching of the Pontiff always and everywhere.
