This was stated by the Minister of the Interior Matteo Salvini responding to the mayor of Naples, Luigi de Magistris, who today said he was available to open the port of Naples for the Sea Watch ship.
Interviewed by Radio Crc, Dema attacked the League leader on multiple fronts: «Salvini's language is unworthy of an Interior Minister and I say this with respect for the republican institutions to which I swore an oath – he said – I am not part of a party that has stolen tens of millions from Italians, I don't go hugging criminals during football matches and I don't even remotely fear the idea, while excluding it, to use army, carabinieri and policemen against the mayors because if he even tries to think about it he will have such an adequate political and democratic response that he will remember it for the rest of his life".

The mayor then took the matter further on Sky TG24: «Salvini has committed conduct that openly violates the Constitution on which he swore, therefore he is the traitor and he should resign. He's having, together with the Government, inhuman behavior. I wrote to the commander to direct the bow towards the port of Naples, because the port of Naples is open. If there are children and women dying, this is not only inhumane but in my opinion it is a crime. Those who are committing a crime up to now are those within this Government who do not save human lives. We will never go down in history for those who let children die at sea".
