The president of the United States signed a decree in recent days that partially defunds the chain of abortion clinics, depriving her of 60 millions of taxpayer dollars. Until now Planned Parenthood received from 50 ai 60 millions annually thanks to Title (federal program that subsidizes family planning services for low-income families) but from today things will change drastically.
If, following his inauguration, Trump canceled federal funding for organizations that promote abortion and family planning at an international level, from today the ax also falls on the same subjects who operate on the national territory, thus marking an epochal turning point. According to the new directive, named Protect Life Rule, which will come into force within sixty days, organizations receiving Title X funding have 120 days to economically separate the funds intended for abortion and family planning, so that the latter are not subsidized by taxpayers' money. As well as public funding, clinics will be deprived of the ability to provide information on where to obtain an abortion.
«Today, the Trump administration took a critical first step in the right direction», he declared to the Catholic News Agency, the president of the March for Life, Jeanne Mancini. «Abortion is not healthcare», added Mancini, «but for decades the federal government has willingly supported abortion by subsidizing the industry with hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes each year». President Trump kept his word last May, when he announced the cancellation of Title Planned Parenthood.
With this decision the White House, we read in a note, «the number of patients assisted will increase and the quality of care offered will improve», also implementing efforts to protect women and children from sexual abuse and harassment. Thanks to Protect Life Rule, moreover, funds previously earmarked for abortion, they will be reallocated to facilities that provide healthcare to women, without practicing it.
A similar reform of Title, during the Reagan administration, with the prohibition of funding for abortion practices, except in case of danger to the woman's life. The legislation was confirmed by the Supreme Court in the ruling Rust vs. Sullivan of the 1991, only to be later rejected by the Clinton administration.
Under the presidency of Donald Trump, the pro-life approach of Title, That, of the rest, reflects the trend of public opinion: according to a recent survey, Indeed, il 54% of Americans say they are against financing abortion with their taxes, while only the 39% would be in favor of the same operation.
