The Christian neighborhoods of Damascus hit
At least 14 missiles were also launched today on the Christian neighborhoods of Damascus, causing 5 dead, lots of damage to buildings, to shops and cars, and several injured. Even the headquarters of the Greek Catholic Patriarchate was hit by bombs today, as yesterday the Franciscan and Maronite Churches were hit. ” Today I am very discouraged, I see a dark future for us. We are convinced that there are countries ( America and Israel first) that they don't want Christians in the Middle East. If there are Christians there is resistance, there is identity and consciousness; without Christians they will be able to say that they are all bad, and if only Muslims remain it will be easier to have pretexts to take Syrian land. In the Middle East this is the cleansing operation, and after having already wiped out the Christians from Iraq, they will continue with Syria. Jordan and Lebanon.
But we Syrians are the original inhabitants here, we have been here since the origins of Christianity!
Damascus, mortar launches on the Old City. Two churches hit
A mortar shell hit Monday 8 January the Bab Tuma neighborhood, in the old city of Damascus where several churches are concentrated, causing extensive damage to the Latin Catholic parish of the Conversion of St. Paul, entrusted to the pastoral care of the Franciscan friars. The church was damaged on the side and roof, the windows were broken and the systems used to heat the parish were also damaged. The artillery shell also caused damage to the adjacent Maronite cathedral, built in 1865.

The artillery shells launched against the Old City of Damascus represent yet another confirmation that, beyond the proclamations, the conflict in Syria is still ongoing and continues to affect peripheral areas of the capital. While official Syrian sources report that in the early hours of today, Tuesday 9 January, Israel has launched an attack on Syrian territory using aircraft and surface-to-surface missiles, aimed at hitting a Syrian military base near al Katifa, eastern suburb of Damascus.
